PRIME TV - Eng

It is eight o'clock in the evening.

The national news is on television.

There is a debate between high-ranking politicians, all men of course, dressed in neat, starched suits.

Their hair are pulled back, or at least the few that remain on a head marked by years of worry.

They have a confident posture, the imposing bulk of one puts a strain on the buttons on the belly, the gaze glassed and luxurious.

The ruling class, or someone close to them.

In their voices stigma, indignation, determination.

"If it weren't for us their women would all be with 8 children and in great precariousness".

"They don't have the value of work, I don't think they really work."

"They do everything they can to be able to live the good life on welfare."

"Monkeys... savages."

"Criminals you know..."

"And what does the state do while they come and violate our law and our women?"

"I'm not a racist, my favourite food is couscous."

I'll stop, because there's as much crap as you want.

I don't think it's necessary to point out that it's men speaking, and that they're White.

They are talking about anyone who is not or is not considered as such in their society.

Black people, Gypsies, Asians people, Latin*.s, people from different ethnic groups.

Don't deny it.

The media accessible to everyone gives space to openly racist or misogynistic characters.

Men who talk about feminism - and assume that we are all witches.

White people talking about racism - which no longer exists in their beautiful civilisation.

White, upper-class women discussing the difficulty of being a migrant woman fleeing poverty.

Let's try to put it the other way around: a group of black, Asian, Latino men... talking about the white population, with disdain and superiority.

A group of women from different ethnic groups who see white women as poor things in need of rescue. And they talk about it on live TV on a circular table and big screens in the background.

Radio guests ironising the inability of white people to dance, run large families or survive in the sun - their skin is not made for heat!

Can you imagine that?

It would be grotesque, ridiculous, shameful.

There would be waves of # noantiwhiteracism hashtags, protest marches, boycotts of TV channels.

But the fact is that this makes you smile, because you know it will never happen.

It is not even imaginable.

Belittling and attacking non-white people on a daily basis in the popular media is socially acceptable while picking on the socially dominant group it's a concept that does not even exist in our wildest fantasies.

If there were sanctions or if they were really criticised, these actions would not take place so easily. If we were outraged and had the empathy and energy to stand up against such ignorance and pettiness then things would be different.

We are built to accept ordinary racism.

We look at it with a blissful smile on our faces as a background sound to our family evenings.

This is also systemic racism. Accepting a section of the population to be mocked, insulted, humiliated publicly on live TV.
